Utah Red Horn Coral has become one of those rocks where prices have shot to the stratosphere. This happens when the supply dries up and people want some anyway. Someone at the mega-site Etsy thinks that a single coral is worth just less than $1,000.00. Because I have a very limited supply, I don't offer it very often. I have a truly museum quality specimen available here at KinesavaROCKS (unless someone has bought it). I've raised the price twice now because I see what others are asking for inferior pieces.

Utah Red Horn Coral is covered with a powdery limestone matrix (or is embedded into solid limestone), I clean it with muriatic acid.

This pile is smaller pieces that I have decided not to offer indiividually. I'm offering the entire pile at a price that you just won't see again. Most of the pieces are only partially red agate but a few are completely agate -- just smaller pieces.

If you have a retail store, since these are samples of one of the most rare fossils found in Utah, they should be easy to retail individually at several times what I'm asking here. If you are an individual collector, some can be made into jewelry pieces and they will all display well since they clearly show that they're fossilized Rugosa Coral.

My dad had a role in opening up the site in the foothills of the Uinta Mountains of Utah more than half a century ago. You can read all about that in a blog essay here:

The best information I can find on the web is that the dig site has been closed for quite a few years now.

(Random observation -- Just guessing, but ....)

This is new. Someone -- probably someone like me who has inherited corals from an "old stock" rockhound pioneer -- appears to have sold out to an industrial scale jewelry manufacturer somewhere. It happens. I've seen floods of Utah agatized barite, Utah Tempskya Fern, and now Utah red horn coral converted into virtually identical pieces of jewelry and offered at virtually identical prices at Ebay. The pile I have for sale could be converted that way, but I'm not offering enough of them to make it worthwhile to whoever is doing it. (And I'm not going to.)

If you're in the market for a nice piece at an attractive price, the ones for sale at Ebay look good to me. They will probably be available for a few months and then you won't see them again.

I'm not "in business" -- I'm just having fun with my dad's rocks. So when I see something, I say something. If you know anything about these eruptions of rock jewelry that can occasionally be seen at Ebay, leave a message.
