Roxy and I have decided to celebrate the start of a new year at the beginning of October. Other cultures start a new year at other times rather than the middle of the winter. Why can’t we?
Our inspiration for this decision is the arrival of a new baby! The symbol for a new year here in America is often a baby. Here’s the baby ….
Ain’t he cute !
I was feeding the birds and chipmunks – which I do every morning – and there he was!
It’s now a little chilly early in the morning here at KinesavaROCKS headquarters, so he wasn’t moving yet. But then, rattlesnakes usually don’t move unless they absolutely have to. Seeing one this late in the season is a first for us and another sign of climate change. We’ve never seen a rattlesnake in October before. They’re usually up the hill and looking for a den to sleep through the winter,
We’re a little worried about him. He needs to find a place to sleep before it gets too cold.
The past two years my hugleculture grow bed near the house has produced two crops of baby rat snakes. I found about five of them yesterday. Last year they got in the basement. I had to evict them left and right before the cats could find them. The cats were delighted with those auto moving strings of yarn. Hopefully your little fella finds the den and doesn't move in with you.
Poor little fella. Hopefully he can find a safe place for the winter.
Too cute!
