It’s so great to see beautiful things made with my dad’s rocks!
Miley is a young rock enthusiast in the Midwest. She’s made the KinesavaROCKS “Hit Parade” before. See: Miley’s Magnificent Macros. She’s done it again! ... Again!
This time, she has cleaned and mounted a trilobite. She's got a real thing going here.
(Full Disclosure: I don''t have a lot of trilobites. My dad only made a real effort to hound rocks that he could cut and polish. You can make trilobites look really good. Miley did it. But you can't cut and polish them. The only reason I have any at all is that my dad's favorite brother lived over in the West Desert of Utah where Utah trilobites are found. If you're interested, send me a message.)
A month or so ago, I displayed a diorama that she made in the banner of KinesavaROCKS.
I’m breaking a rule that I usually follow here. Not all of these are my dad’s rocks. Miley helpfully provided a complete description …
The diorama features a mystery slab (jasperised wood ?) as the base and a chunk of your dad's Henry Mountain wood. The mystery slab was in the Christmas package you sent to me. A chunk of Henry Mountain wood and a small slab of Blue Forest wood (not from you) are in the background. There are a bunch of Lake Superior agate mushrooms and a spider, also made from Lake Superior agates and wire. The centerpiece is a carved soapstone frog (I didn’t carve it).
I love the carvings, especially the spider and mushrooms! A lot of people think that you can only make cabs and tumbled rocks. One of the best things about Miley’s diorama is the creative new ideas she put into it. (The second best is the great craftsmanship!)
That diorama looks amazing, nice job Miley!
