Desert Varnish and Ken's Wood

Updated: Jul 7

Ken polished a piece of petrified wood that my dad collected and beat the heat at the same time. Ken discovered what he called a "Kaleidoscope of Color" underneath a think coat of "Desert Varnish".

The blog is in a PDF that you can download and read here!

Wow, he took off a lot of material! Do you know what grinder attachment he used?

I contacted Ken (I have a policy of not sharing any personal identification information about customers.) Here's what he wrote:

"Standard Hardin wet grinder with diamond grits 50 through 3000. But I got a feeling looking at the backside before pictures which would have meant major material removal and loss of most of bark and knots that it confused him."

If anybody is responsible for confusion, it's me. The pictures in the blog are the front end (polished) and the back end (still rough). I figured that would be good enough for "before" and "after".
